Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games: Successful Inspection Visit by the International University Sports Federation FISU (Kopie 1)

The three-day visit focused on an intensive exchange on the event concept which adh had worked out over the past two years in intensive cooperation with the Federal Ministry of the Interior, Building and Community, the State Chancellery of North Rhine-Westphalia, FISU as well as the municipalities of Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr.

Thanks to the great support of our partners, we succeeded in giving FISU - despite the Corona-related difficult framework conditions - diverse insights into the Rhine-Ruhr sports and cultural region. We were also able to discuss upcoming challenges together. We are well on the way to get the 2025 FISU Games to North Rhine-Westphalia. We are hoping for a positive decision by FISU on 15 May!"

We have felt the enthusiasm, the will, and the power to make the 2025 FISU World University Games an outstanding experience for students from all over the world and the people of North Rhine-Westphalia as well as all of Germany. We hope that the German bidding process will result in a pleasing conclusion for all parties involved."

The FISU Executive Committee will come to the attributing decision at its meeting in Düsseldorf on 15 May 2021. If Germany will be awarded the 2025 FISU World University Games, formerly known as Universiade, about 10,000 athletes and officials from 170 countries are expected to travel to the Rhine-Ruhr region in July 2025 with competitions in 18 different sports being organised in twelve days. In addition to outstanding sports achievements, the event will also focus on science and innovation as well as intercultural and academic exchange.

Sports, infrastructure and venues
The following fifteen sports are mandatory for summer editions of the FISU Games: archery, artistic gymnastics, athletics, badminton, basketball, diving, fencing, judo, rhythmic gymnastics, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, volleyball and water polo. 
The three optional sports 3x3 basketball, beach volleyball as well as rowing would round out the programme of the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games. There are also plans to add individual para-sport events to the competition schedule. 

Hubs at two main clusters located at Messe Düsseldorf and Messe Essen are projected as event and logistic centres for the Rhine-Ruhr 2025 FISU World University Games with the event concept also envisaging the use of a total of 21 venues at established locations and on exhibition sites in Bochum, Duisburg, Düsseldorf, Essen and Mülheim an der Ruhr. All existing or temporary venues are located within a 25-kilometre radius and are connected by a well-established transport network, which facilitates a compact, modern and sustainable event concept.
In addition, hotel capacities with over 60,000 beds meet the needs of participants and guests.
